With quantitative reasoning and mathematical analysis at the core of its twenty distinct tracks, Carnegie Mellon is an IT stronghold. Students are able to mold their own curriculum to center around their specific areas of interest. The intensity of the program is said to be “grueling” but necessary to prepare students to excel at their careers.
Fields of Expertise
Some Tepper students may choose to attain a more basic MBA, concentrating in accounting or finance, while others pursue a more localized study in Non-Profit Management/Public Administration or Entrepreneurship. The campus houses a diverse range of research centers which students actively utilize to facilitate their academic pursuits.
Tepper also offers a number of combined degrees to allow students to grow in their niche. Dual degree options include Law & MBA and Software Engineering & MBA.
Environmental Integrity
Lester Lave, Harry B. and James H. Higgins Professor of Economics at Tepper and the co-director of the university’s Electricity Industry Center and professor of public policy and engineering, will be honored with the 2010 Richard Beatty Mellon Environmental Stewardship Award from the Air and Waste Management Association.
“This award is a wonderful tribute to the creative and dynamic professional work of Professor Lave. For more than 50 years, he has made substantial contributions to advancing environmental science, policy and regulatory approaches in the U.S. and worldwide,” said David A. Dzombak, the Walter J. Blenko Sr. Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and faculty director of Carnegie Mellon’s Steinbrenner Institute of Environmental Education and Research.
“Mini” Semesters
A “mini” semester is half the length of a standard semester, and a Tepper year is comprised of four. Don’t let the name fool you, these “mini” or “power” semesters consist of a single semester’s worth of coursework, that means ten full courses before winter break. But Christmas comes in year two when students utilize these “mini” semesters to explore electives and work on specialized projects.
Key Statistics and Information
o Tepper estimates a total budget of $68,564 for full-time first-year students and $66,664 for returning students.
