GMAT - Stanford accepts either the GMAT or GRE.
- Scores of students currently attending the MBA Program range from 500-800 on the GMAT, although there is no minimum score required to apply.
Interviews
The primary questions revolve around behaviors, skills, and attitudes that we believe are key to good citizenship here at the Stanford Business School and high-impact leadership post-MBA. If you are invited to interview, the interview will occur during the application round in which you applied. You will be contacted by the MBA Admissions Office to schedule an interview and you and your interviewer will set up a mutually convenient date and time to meet. The admission interviews are conducted almost exclusively by Stanford MBA alumni. On occasion, you may be invited to interview with an MBA Admissions Officer.
Essays
Discussing your entrepreneurial side in your essays is essential, but it should be recognized that all applicants will do so as well. Thus in order to differentiate yourself it will be necessary to be specific about your actions and ideas and how they stand to impact society. Also be sure to describe in detail instances you have had to work with a team in both extracurricular a professional activity.
It is also extremely important to demonstrate how you will contribute to the diversity at Stanford. Many qualified students are denied admission because they fail to do this despite being competitive in all other respects. So take advantage of the lack of a word limit to your essays and tell your story in a logical and clear manner, making clear your interests and unique experience.
Examples of essay questions used by Stanford SBS: - What matters most to you, and why? (3 pages, double-spaced)
- What are your aspirations? How will your education at Stanford help you achieve them? (2 pages, double-spaced)
Please note that Stanford SBS’ questions typically change from year to year. However, some questions might stay the same two years in a row.
Recommendations
Stanford requires two professional recommendation letters and one letter from a peer. Recommendations are used to evaluate your leadership capacity and ability to work as part of a team. Generic letters are to be avoided.
